A burglar carrying a firearm made the mistake of breaking into an Indiana residence where armed men were prepared to defend themselves, according to reports.

The wild incident unfolded just after 3 a.m. on Thursday in Kokomo, a city in Howard County.

Authorities say 18-year-old Marrell B. Tyler entered an apartment while wearing a ski mask and brandishing a gun, WBAY reports.

He allegedly pointed the firearm at three men inside, sparking a struggle which saw Tyler ultimately disarmed and beaten up.

“The residents told police they fought the suspect and got the gun out of his hands after he entered, but the suspect pulled out another gun during the struggle,” WTHR reports.

“The residents again tried to get the gun out of his hands, and the gun went off in the process, but no one was injured.”

One of the would-be victims retrieved his own firearm and the men held Tyler at gunpoint until police arrived.

Tyler was arrested then taken to a local hospital and treated for his injuries.

He was later booked at Howard County Criminal Justice Center on a felony burglary charge.

None of the residents required immediate medical attention.
