Suspects riding all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) were in involved in multiple criminal incidents in Philadelphia over the weekend, according to reports.

On Saturday night, a security officer was shot by a man operating an ATV in the Bella Vista neighborhood of the city, authorities say.

A female passenger of an ‘open-air vehicle’ got into an altercation with an employee of a business at around 11 p.m.

After security guards intervened, the woman climbed back into the vehicle, at which time the driver reportedly opened fire on the guards, striking one of them multiple times.

“They were separated by the security officers down here. Unarmed security officers were working this detail tonight,” Capt. Anthony Ginaldi explained in a statement.

“And as they were separated, that female got back into that open-air vehicle and the operator of that vehicle then fired two shots striking one of the security officers in the leg and in the stomach.”

The guard, identified as a 40-year-old male, was rushed to hospital in critical condition.

“Police sources also refer to the open-air vehicle as an ATV,” CBS Philadelphia reports.

“Police also say they saw several ATVs fleeing from the scene on South Street immediately after the shooting.”

On Sunday night, a Philadelphia Police Patrol Unit was surrounded by “hundreds of dirt bikes/atv’s” while trying to break up a gathering of riders near a gas station at around 8 p.m.

The windshield of a patrol car was smashed by a thrown object before the mob raced away.

No officers were injured in the attack.

Suspects in both cases are still on the loose, according to the latest available updates.
