A college football player has announced he will transfer from Rutgers University due to requirements to receive an experimental COVID injection.
Peyton Powell, a defensive back from Texas, says he is leaving the institution to avoid tyrannical medical polices imposed by school officials.
“The University of Rutgers has made the COVID vaccine mandatory to attend school and play football, therefore I have no other choice but to enter my name into the transfer portal,” Powell wrote on social media on Tuesday.
Powell, a four-star recruit out of high school, previously joined Baylor University before landing at Rutgers in 2019.
In March, Rutgers became one of the first American universities to mandate COVID shots for students attending the fall semester.
Last month, Rutgers head coach Greg Schiano told local media the team had an injection rate of over 90 percent heading into training camp.
