Approximately one in five illegal aliens crossing the U.S. southern border are arriving infected with COVID and other ailments, according to Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas.
Mayorkas reportedly revealed the disturbing figure during a virtual Immigration Law and Policy Conference on Monday.
“We are confronted with a population of people that, as a general matter, have a rate of illness of approximately 20 percent,” Mayorkas said.
“When one is speaking of 7,000 or 7,500 people encountered at the border every day, if one takes a look at that the system, it is not built for that in a COVID environment where isolation is required.”
The admission is stunning considering the onerous health restrictions placed on foreign travelers wishing to enter the United States legally, including a requirement to show proof of receiving experimental COVID injections.
On Friday, Mayorkas also confessed that none of around 30,000 mostly-Haitians migrants who flooded Del Rio, Texas, in recent weeks were screened for COVID.
“We did not test that population of individuals,” Mayorkas stated. “I do not know if anyone was sick with COVID. We certainly had some people get sick, not with COVID to my knowledge and we addressed their illnesses.”
President Donald Trump has warned that at least 17,000 illegals from the Del Rio surge are already making their way deeper into the U.S.
“All 17,000 illegal immigrants who entered our Country from Haiti and other places unknown have now been released into our Country with no vetting, checking, or even minimal understanding of who they are,” Trump said. “Some are very sick with extremely contagious diseases, even worse than the China Virus.”
“They are not masked or mandated, but just let free to roam all over our Country and affect what was just a year ago, a great Nation.”
