Joe Biden is now under federal investigation over halting the construction of the wall at the U.S. southern border because freezing the money may have broken Congressional budget rules.
The Government Accountability Office has launched an investigation Wednesday to determine if Biden violated the law by freezing the money in violation of budget rules meant for Congress to control of how the money is spent.
“An unfavorable ruling from GAO would bolster Republicans in branding Biden as a rule-breaker as they blame him for the surge of migrants and unaccompanied children at the southern border,” Politico reported.
“The pause on spending ‘directly contributed’ to that flood of border crossers, Senate Republicans said in their plea last week for GAO to opine on the issue. More than 70 House Republicans followed Tuesday in asking for a GAO opinion, which the watchdog typically provides whenever a member of Congress requests one.”
Sen. Roy Blunt (R-Mo.) said Biden should have known he was violating the law because of how long he’d been in Congress as a Delaware senator.
“He was in the Congress a long time,” Blunt told Politico. “He knows it’s the Congress’ job to authorize how the money is spent and the president’s job to spend it efficiently.”
Biden proclaimed on January 20th, the day he was installed into the White House that he would halt the border wall’s construction and divert the money elsewhere.
