A NASA facility in California could soon shelter child migrants amid an overwhelming surge of illegal aliens reaching the southern border, according to reports.

Despite being in power for less than two months, the Biden administration has ignited a migration catastrophe of historic proportions, with a record number of ‘unaccompanied minors’ currently in Border Patrol custody.

Nearly 9,500 underage migrants were apprehended at the U.S.-Mexico border in February, up from around 5,800 in January.

Federal agencies are now scouring the country for facilities in which to house them, including temporary camps, school buildings, military bases – and even a NASA research center.

NASA Ames, located at Moffett Federal Airfield in Silicon Valley, may be used as a shelter for alien minors.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and NASA are currently “coordinating a site assessment of some currently vacant property” at the airfield for “HHS personnel to determine whether certain facilities at the site might be suitable to temporarily provide shelter space in the future,” NASA said in a statement to the East Bay Times.

“This effort will have no impact on NASA’s ability to conduct its primary missions,” NASA spokesman Darryl Waller told the New York Times.

White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki has indicated the administration anticipates many more young illegals will continue arriving at the border.

“Obviously we’re going to have more kids… in the country since we have been letting unaccompanied minors stay, and the last administration immorally kicked them out,” Psaki said in a recent press conference.

“So, of course, we have to look for facilities and places where we can safely and humanely have these unaccompanied minors in the interim.”

Over 100,000 illegal aliens were apprehended at the southern border in February.

One Border Patrol agent recently estimated that as few as 25 percent of border crossers are being caught.
