The San Diego Convention Center will be used to house ‘unaccompanied alien children’ who have entered the U.S. illegally, officials have announced.

Amid a historic surge of ‘child migrants’ crossing the southern border, the Biden administration continues to seek large facilities in which to pack hundreds or thousands of illegal aliens claiming to be under the age of 18.

The Convention Center, which has been used to shelter the homeless during the ‘COVID crisis,’ will now be filled with migrant minors for at least three months, ensuring local business owners will continue to suffer from a lack of large-scale events upon which they depend.

“When HHS Secretary Xavier Becerra requested our help to house some of the unaccompanied minors at the border, we knew it was the right thing to do,” San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria said in a joint statement with Board of Supervisors Chair Nathan Fletcher, according to Fox 5.

“We are working closely with our federal partners to finalize the details for preparing to receive these young people and provide them with care, compassion and a safe space to transition while they are reunited with families or sponsors.”

Occupants are expected to stay at the facility for up to 35 days, and will be provided with food, medical care, sleeping quarters, and a recreational facility.

Local residents who operate businesses around the Convention Center say they are disappointed at the move, having suffered through nearly a year of crippling lockdown restrictions and related fallout.

“Things are opened back up and the locals are doing pretty good at supporting us but we really need those conventions back,” Danny Ayer of San Diego Pedicab Tours told local media. “I mean, the rent’s not cheap down here.”

After federal authorities recently disclosed plans to move 3,000 ‘child migrants’ into the Dallas Convention Center, it was revealed that at least 2,300 of them are males between the ages of 15 and 17.

Data released by HHS in early March indicated the vast majority of ‘child migrants’ in federal custody were illegal aliens claiming to be between 15 and 17 years old.

There are currently at least 16,000 unaccompanied alien minors in federal custody.
