A female tourist was slashed while walking near Times Square in Manhattan by a man who had been hitting on her, according to reports.
The victim, a 23-year-old Michigan resident on holiday in the Big Apple, was walking back to her hotel at around 4:30 a.m. on Saturday morning when she and her friend were approached by the suspect.
“The victim’s friend told the man to back off, but he followed them instead,” police told WPIX.
“He then snuck up behind the victim on West 46th Street between Eighth and Ninth avenues and slashed her across the chest and right hand with a sharp object, according to the NYPD.”
NYPD shared surveillance footage of the suspect as he fled the scene.
The victim initially declined medical attention, but later visited an urgent care facility to address her wounds, authorities say.
The attack comes amid a slew of violent crimes in and around Times Square in recent months.
