French President Emmanuel Macron’s attack on nationalism and its proponents during his speech at an Armistice Day observance in Paris has been received with mixed reviews, prompting one French MP to voice his disgust with Macron during a televised interview.

Appearing on LCI Direct, N. Dupont-Aignan, a member of the National Assembly representing the Debout la France party as its founder and president, said he felt “scandalized” by Macron’s brazen denouncement of nationalism while the president “closes his eyes” to radical Islam.

“I’m very shocked by the attitude of Emmanuel Macron,” Dupont-Aignan said, comparing Macron to “pacifist” French leaders during the interwar period who “closed their eyes to the threat of Hitler.”

“Emmanuel Macron is doing the same thing. He’s attacking the heads of democratic states — Hungary, Italy, America, Russia — and he closes his eyes to Islamic terrorism. I was scandalized yesterday.”

“What scandalized me was to see [Turkish President Recep Tayyip] Erdogan in the front row,” he continued. “Erdogan, who is occupying a European country, Cyprus, who has supported jihadis, who keeps threatening Europe. Well, pinch me, I must be dreaming.”

Dupont-Aignan expressed his shock that Macron would vilify President Donald Trump and Italian Interior Minister Matteo Salvini, both populist-nationalists, while he “kowtows in front of Erdogan, in front of the Muslim Brotherhood.”

“We make war against radical Islam,” Dupont-Aignan declared, before ridiculing Macron’s recent calls to form an official European Army to ‘defend’ the EU against the US, Russia, and China.

“It’s nonsense. The poor president has lost his mind,” Dupont-Aignan said. “The enemy of France is Islamic terrorism. The enemies of France are all those who want to destroy our values.”

“He talks all day long about values, but he is wrong about who the enemy is.”
