French World Cup winner Paul Pogba has reportedly quit the national football team in response to President Emmanuel Macron slamming Islamic terrorism after a teacher was beheaded in Paris.

47-year-old Samuel Paty was decapitated by a jihadist who was incited to commit the act of terror by other Muslims who demanded Paty face punishment for showing cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad to his pupils.

Days after the incident, France saw large scale marches attended by hundreds of thousands of demonstrators in support of freedom of expression.

Paty was subsequently awarded the French Legion d’honneur by President Macron, who vowed to intensify efforts to combat Islamic terrorism while protecting free speech.

“We will continue, professor. We will defend the freedom that you taught so well and we will be secular, we will not renounce caricatures, illustrations, even if others step back,” said Macron.

Footballer Paul Pogba, who plays for Manchester United, was apparently personally offended by Macron’s comments and has sensationally quit the French football team in response.

That’s according to Arabic sports website, which says Poga has resigned in disgust, although the player himself and the French Football Association has yet to make any official response on the matter.

In apparently quitting international football, Pogba is making it clear that he is more offended by Macron’s defense of free speech than by the beheading itself.

Meanwhile, Muslim groups across the world are calling for a boycott of French products in response to Macron’s comments.
