Megyn Kelly: DeSantis Doesn’t Stand A Chance Against Trump in 2024

Political commentator Megyn Kelly predicted former President Donald Trump will easily secure the 2024 Republican presidential nomination, claiming Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) could only get it if Trump dies or endorses him.

Appearing on “The Rubin Report” last Friday, Kelly explained Trump’s power over the Republican base was so strong even DeSantis, who is also incredibly popular, “can’t overcome that.”

“I just don’t think anybody else could win if Trump runs,” Kelly told host Dave Rubin.

Rubin took issue with Kelly’s remarks, asking whether the two shared a debate stage with each other, if DeSantis could come out on top.

“Really? So you think if they got on a stage, you don’t think that DeSantis is crafty enough or his record stands enough?” he asked.

“No,” Kelly said. “No. I don’t even think that a little.”

“I think Trump sucks up all the energy in every room, no matter what,” she explained. “And even someone as skilled as a politician – and smart policy-wise – as DeSantis can’t overcome that. He can’t.”

“The only way DeSantis is going to become the Republican nominee is if Trump chooses not to run and endorses him, or dies.”

Even if DeSantis were to somehow win the GOP nomination, she said, Trump’s “hardcore MAGA” supporters wouldn’t budge.

“You really think the hardcore MAGA is going to abandon Trump for DeSantis? They’re not,” she said. “I talk to them all the time, I take calls from them on my radio show. They won’t. They like DeSantis but they don’t think it’s his term. They think Trump was screwed out of his last election, that he was screwed out of his first term by all the craziness – the RussiaGate and so on – and they think he is entitled, he deserves another shot.”

“So unless Trump gracefully and graciously says ‘get behind DeSantis,’ I wouldn’t put any chips on DeSantis at all,” she added.

Kelly’s predictions aren’t without merit.

Trump won the Texas CPAC straw poll in August, capturing 69.1% of the ballots cast. DeSantis came in a distant second at 23.7%.

But the left and critics of Trump are citing a USA Today poll showing Floridians prefer DeSantis to Trump 48%-40% in a hypothetical 2024 matchup.
