Mueller Lackey Andrew Weissmann Calls For Biden DOJ To Prosecute Trump

Joe Biden’s Department of Justice should prosecute Donald Trump, assuming he’s inaugurated in January, according to special counsel Robert Mueller’s top deputy investigator Andrew Weissmann.

In a Tuesday op-ed for the New York Times, Weissman began by acknowledging that prosecuting Trump would certainly divide the country and preoccupy Biden’s administration from real issues, but such an action must be taken anyway.

“Any renewed investigative activity or a criminal prosecution would further divide the country and stoke claims that the Justice Department was merely exacting revenge,” Weissman said. “An investigation and trial would be a spectacle that would surely consume the administration’s energy.”

“But as painful and hard as it may be for the country, I believe the next attorney general should investigate Mr. Trump and, if warranted, prosecute him for potential federal crimes.”

“Mr. Trump’s criminal exposure is clear,” he said, adding that there is “ample evidence to support a charge that Mr. Trump obstructed justice,” in the Mueller probe, which cleared Trump of any wrongdoing between himself and the Russian government — including obstruction of justice.

“In short, being president should mean you are more accountable, not less, to the rule of law,” he concluded.

The Democrat and media establishment has clearly signaled their intention to prosecute Trump.

On Monday, Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) demanded that Biden “send a message across the world” by investigating Trump.

“I certainly would support investigating the president of the United States,” Waters told MSNBC. “What he has done in the four years that he has served as president is simply unconscionable, I think criminal in some cases. He’s placed this country in danger. And the president of the United States is supposed to be about making sure that the country is safe and secure, and he has done everything possible to undermine our democracy. I don’t think that can be overlooked.”

“I don’t know what Biden would do. I know Biden wants to move on. He does not want to be bogged down in investigations, but I think that the president of the United States should be investigated,” she continued. “And we should send a message across the world that we will not tolerate the undermining of our democracy in the way this president has done. So again, I don’t know what President-elect Biden would do, but I certainly would support investigating the president.”

Last week, the Democrat Coalition reminded followers that Trump is already under investigation by partisans in the Southern District of New York (SDNY).

An MSNBC “legal analyst” even claimed the SDNY already has “ALL the evidence” to indict Trump.
