President Donald Trump on Monday threw his support behind former press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders after she announced a run for the Arkansas governor’s seat in 2022.
“Sarah Huckabee Sanders is a warrior who will always fight for the people of Arkansas and do what is right, not what is politically correct,” Trump said in a statement, under a banner that read “Save America,” rather than the traditional “Make America Great Again” slogan.
“Sarah is strong on Borders, tough on Crime, and fully supports the Second Amendment and our great law enforcement officers.”
“She loves our Military and Veterans — and her home state of Arkansas,” he continued. “Sarah will be a GREAT Governor, and she has my Complete and Total Endorsement!”
Earlier in the day, Sanders announced her gubernatorial bid for the seat her father held from 1996 to 2007.
Last week, Trump made his first political move since leaving office, throwing his support behind Dr. Kelli Ward who went on to win her second term as chairman of the Arizona Republican party.
