Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) called on Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-Fla.) and Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) to support Donald Trump’s run for president in 2024.
Speaking during Trump’s rally in Waco, Texas, on Saturday, Gaetz explained that without Trump, both DeSantis and Cruz may have lost their respective races.
“Only Donald Trump could have rescued us from Hillary Clinton,” Gaetz said.

“Without Trump doing three rallies in the final week in the 2018 election in Florida, my governor today would probably be Andrew Gillum,” Gaetz said, referring to the close 2018 race between DeSantis and Gillum, who was ahead in the polls.
“How weird is that? And without Trump dragging Ted Cruz across the finish line, your senator would probably be beta-Beto,” he noted.
“So Ron DeSantis, Ted Cruz: patriots of the MAGA movement delivered for you in your time of need,” Gaetz continued. “Today, Ron DeSantis and Ted Cruz should endorse Donald Trump for president and stand with us as we were so proud to stand with them.”
DeSantis has not confirmed a 2024 presidential bid but he’s refused to plainly answer if he would run, which big donors have taken as a signal that he is waiting to announce until closer to the primaries.
Trump has stepped up his rhetoric against Ron “DeSanctimonious” in response to his anticipated presidential announcement.
Cruz said last February that he will seek a third term as senator rather than run against Trump again.
