A security guard was wounded and a suspect killed during a ferocious gun battle at a smoke store in California, according to authorities.
The shocking incident unfolded in Compton on April 3, but police just released surveillance footage and a statement about what happened in an effort to track down murder suspects who remain at large.
Just before 7 p.m. that evening, four male suspects entered the Smoke Shop reportedly intent on committing armed robbery.
As the suspects circled the counter, one drew a firearm and pointed it at an employee who worked as a security guard at the business.
The employee can be seen swiftly drawing his own weapon and firing at the suspects, sparking a chaotic shootout captured on camera.
“The employee sustained gunshot wounds to his face and neck and was later released from the hospital,” the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD) explained in a press release.
“About 30 minutes after the botched robbery, deputies responded to Martin Luther King Hospital regarding a gunshot victim. Investigators discovered the gunshot victim was one of the ‘Smoke Shop’ robbers whom the store employee had shot.”
Another suspect was arrested the following day, however, two remain on the loose according to the latest available updates.
“Kahlel Lundy and Keith Rachel were identified as participating in the robbery and are currently at large. Both Kahlel Lundy and Keith Rachel are wanted for murder, and LASD Homicide Bureau is seeking the public’s assistance in locating them,” LASD says.
Anyone with helpful information is asked to call the LASD Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500 or contact Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-TIPS.
