Police in Los Angeles are investigating a shocking robbery that unfolded in the driveway of a gated home in an upscale neighborhood this weekend.
The terrifying incident unfolded just after 5 p.m. on Sunday in the posh enclave of Hancock Park.
A mother returning home after taking her infant for a walk in stroller was followed to her front steps by two suspects.
In surveillance footage released by LAPD, a silver sedan can be seen pulling up on the opposite side of the street in front of the victim’s home as she enters through a security gate.
The suspects, described by police as black males in their 20s, stride up the driveway and accost the woman.
They “demanded that she hand over property,” LAPD explained in a statement.
“Fearing for her and her child’s safety, the victim complied and allowed (one) suspect to take her diaper bags and bottle cooler,” police said. “The two suspects proceed to run into a waiting vehicle that was parked across the street from the victim’s home and flee northbound from the location.”
Local residents say they are concerned about rising numbers of robberies and dangerous crimes in affluent neighborhoods.
“I felt so sorry for her,” one woman who has lived in Hancock Park since 1976 told CBS Los Angeles.
“They don’t seem to care. They’ll just walk right up to you with a gun.”
