A high school student was arrested after body-slamming a police officer during a fight at a school in Florida last week, according to authorities.

The incident unfolded on Thursday in St. Cloud, a city in Osceola County near Orlando.

A St. Cloud Police officer was attempting to break up a fight between two students when another male student, who was previously uninvolved, attacked the cop.

Footage of the altercation that followed has been circulating on social media.

“As Officer Ball was separating two students from fighting each other, another student, suddenly and without provocation, walked up, dropped his backpack, and grabbed Officer Ball by the neck, pulling him away from the initial fight,”  St. Cloud Police Chief Douglas Goerke explained in a statement.

“Officer Ball then focused his attention on the third student attempting to control him with the least amount of force possible. The student picked up Officer Ball and slammed him to the ground.”

School officials and students intervened on the officer’s behalf and helped to restrain the suspect prior to his arrest.

The suspect now faces charges for battery of a law enforcement officer and resisting an officer with violence.

“What occurred to Officer Ball was despicable and should never have happened,” Chief Goerke asserted.

“We will never tolerate behavior that targets our officers and will hold those accountable at the highest levels.”
