A ‘sideshow takeover’ by delinquents in cars ended in a mass shooting that claimed the lives of at least three people in Chicago over the weekend, according to reports.
The harrowing incident unfolded at around 4 a.m. on Sunday morning in the Windy City.
A mob of ‘street racers’ took control of a busy intersection in the Brighton Park neighborhood in a scene that has become common in many U.S. cities.
Drivers performed dangerous maneuvers to the delight of a cheering crowd.
At one point, a gray sedan was ‘drifting’ in circles as well over 100 people looked on, when suddenly, shots rang out.
Footage purportedly shot at the scene shows what unfolded.
“They’re shooting,” a witness exclaims amid a burst of rapid gunfire.
People can be seen fleeing from the intersection in panic.
At least five people were struck, including three Hispanic males who succumbed to their injuries.
“Police said the three deceased males, believed to be between the ages of 15 to 20, all had gang affiliations. Two other Hispanic males were also shot and remain in critical condition,” Fox News reports.
Another video purportedly shot at the scene appears to show victims being picked up off the ground.
