Authorities in New York arrested four men suspected of being MS-13 gang members after they were spotted loading a suspicious object into the trunk of a car, according to reports.
The suspects were already under surveillance by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) agents and the NYPD prior to the incident, a source told NBC New York.
Agents observed the men exiting a house in Far Rockaway, Queens, while carrying a “large, unknown object,” which they placed in the trunk of a sedan before driving off.
The vehicle was tailed for approximately a mile before officers pulled it over on the Nassau Expressway on Long Island.
“When the NYPD officers approached the car, they smelled an odor and discovered a ‘human body with severe trauma’ wrapped in a blanket in the trunk,” sources told Fox News.
“A law enforcement source familiar with the investigation told Fox News all four men were suspected MS-13 gang members and were being looked at as part of the ongoing HSI investigation. The source did not know whether the men were in the country legally.”
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene by medics, but she has not been identified nor has her cause of death been revealed at this time.
“Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) New York, working with the NYPD and our law enforcement partners, made several arrests this morning pursuant to a long-term investigation into certain acts of violence in the Queens, New York area,” a spokesperson said.
