Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) announced he’s deployed floating barriers along the Rio Grande River in efforts to stem the influx of illegal aliens pouring into the county.
“We continue to hold the line in Biden’s absence,” Gov. Abbott declared Friday, sharing images of the water obstructions.
Speaking at a press conference discussing recently enacted border security legislation Thursday, Abbott explained the marine floating barriers would be deployed “at hotspots” along the Rio Grande.
“This strategy will proactively prevent illegal crossings between ports of entry by making it more difficult to cross the Rio Grande and reach the Texas side of the southern border,” a press release from the governor’s office stated. “The first 1,000 feet of the marine floating barrier will be deployed near Eagle Pass.”
Other legislation passed also allows Texas military forces to use unmanned drones to monitor the Texas-Mexico border, creates a fund to reimburse landowners whose property is destroyed by someone engaged in a border crime, and includes a bill designating Mexican drug cartels as foreign terrorist organizations thereby increasing the penalty for crimes.
