The sheriff of a Texas county bordering Mexico is taking DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas to task for failing to secure the border and thereby putting American lives in danger.

Kinney County Sheriff Brad Coe is frustrated Mayorkas continues to deny the dire situation at the border which has greatly impacted people in his county.

“Over the past two years, Kinney County Texas has had to deal with an unprecedented number of issues regarding illegal immigration due to the ‘open border’ stance taken by you and the Biden administration,” Coe wrote in a letter last Thursday directed at the DHS Secretary.

“Kinney County can no longer absorb the cost that the unsecure southern border has put on our local emergency resources.”

In his letter, Sheriff Coe points out the vast number of illegal immigrants traversing through the county is ruining the quality of life for residents, who “no longer feel secure in their homes or when they are working on their property.”

“Kinney County, Texas, is a rural county that relies primarily on agriculture for its economic base,” Coe wrote. “The number of illegal aliens walking through Kinney County has disrupted that economy.”

Coe says Mayorkas should adhere to his constitutional oath and protect American lives as he has sworn to do.

The Fifth Amendment to the US Constitution states “No person shall be held to answer for a capital, or otherwise infamous crime, unless on a presentment or indictment of a grand jury, except in cases arising in the land or naval forces, or in the militia, when in actual service in time of war or public danger’ nor shall any person be subject for the same offense to be twice put in jeopardy of life or limb; nor shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself, nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation.” [emphasis in original]

Sheriff Coe argues the federal government has violated that provision of the Constitution by leaving the border unsecure, allowing illegals to run rampant on private property.

“The property owners, feel that their property rights have been violated because of the unsecured border. They feel as [though] the federal government has taken their land for [use] by those who choose to violate the law and enter illegally. The federal government has failed to protect these landowners and has failed to reimburse landowners for damages related to the immigration crisis.”

Mayorkas’ allegiance, after all, shouldn’t be to the Biden administration or Democrats, Coe highlights, but to the Constitution and the American people.

“As a political appointee, you took an oath to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States,” Coe points out. “Your oath is to remind you that you are to protect the people from the government, not an oath of allegiance to a political party or the President.”

“Unless you can protect the people and secure our southern border, uphold your oath to the Constitution, I feel that you are a threat to the Constitution and should step down from your position as Secretary of Homeland Security.”

Speaking to NewsNation reporter Ali Bradley, Coe blasted Mayorkas for refusing to listen to heads of Border Patrol, ICE and TSA federal agencies, after which he’d be able to “make a rational decision, not echo what the president’s telling him to say.”

“When he took that oath he swore to protect the people – he’s not doing that,” the sheriff stated. “His oath is to the Constitution – not to the Democratic Party, not to President Biden, it’s to the people of the United States and he’s failed. He’s failed miserably now.”

Sheriff Coe’s letter comes as huge swarms of illegal migrants have been surging the border in recent months in anticipation of the Biden administration lifting Title 42 protections, a Covid-era rule which enabled federal agents to quickly deport illegals from certain countries back to Mexico from whence they illegally entered.

Bradley reports Mayorkas has thus far not responded to Coe’s letter.
