Top event website Ticketmaster has announced a plan to use smartphone apps to track whether or not concertgoers have received either their COVID-19 vaccination or a negative test result.
Billboard reported on Wednesday, “As part of that preparation, Ticketmaster has been working on a framework for post-pandemic fan safety that uses smart phones to verify fans’ vaccination status or whether they’ve tested negative for the coronavirus within a 24 to 72 hour window.”
The plan would require cooperation between the Ticketmaster app, health data apps like CLEAR Health Pass or IBM’s Digital Health Pass, and vaccine providers such as CVS Minute Clinic.
Essentially, an individual would take a COVID-19 test or vaccine and the lab would deliver the results to a “health pass” company who would in turn verify their status with Ticketmaster.
The proposal specifically states, “If a fan tested positive or didn’t take a test to verify their status, they would not be granted access to the event.”
While the FDA currently has no approved companies who could deliver real-time vaccination results, Ticketmaster president Mark Yovich thinks demand will bring the technology to fruition.
Billboard says the health pass companies will be needed “for airline travel, employment verification and theme park entry.”
“We’re already seeing many third-party health care providers prepare to handle the vetting — whether that is getting a vaccine, taking a test, or other methods of review and approval – which could then be linked via a digital ticket so everyone entering the event is verified,” Yovich told the outlet. “Ticketmaster’s goal is to provide enough flexibility and options that venues and fans have multiple paths to return to events, and is working to create integrations to our API and leading digital ticketing technology as we will look to tap into the top solutions based on what’s green-lit by officials and desired by clients.”
Serving as America’s largest sports ticket distributer and one of the biggest concert ticket companies, Ticketmaster’s COVID-19 tracking agenda will have a huge impact on The United States.
“In order for live events to return, technology and science are going to play huge roles in establishing integrated protocols so that fans, artists, and employees feel safe returning to venues,” co-founder of reBUILD20 Marianne Herman said. “Integrating ticketing platforms with the guests verified testing results is one key way to reimagine how we’re going to get fans back to live events. The experience of attending live events will look completely different, but innovation married with consistent implementation will provide a framework to get the live sports and event industry back to work.”

Also, as government officials scramble to procure a COVID-19 vaccination, Bill Gates and MIT have the technology to track vaccination records via an invisible tattoo.
Together, MIT and Gates have “created an ink that can be safely embedded in the skin alongside the vaccine itself, and it’s only visible using a special smartphone camera app and filter,” according to Futurism.
Futurism explained, “The invisible ‘tattoo’ accompanying the vaccine is a pattern made up of minuscule quantum dots — tiny semiconducting crystals that reflect light — that glows under infrared light. The pattern — and vaccine — gets delivered into the skin using hi-tech dissolvable microneedles made of a mixture of polymers and sugar.”
The journal Science Translational Medicine explains the technology as “a covert way to embed the record of a vaccination directly in a patient’s skin rather than documenting it electronically or on paper.”
As for Gates’ involvement in the program, he wasn’t just funding it, as Scientific American reports, but “the project came about following a direct request from Microsoft founder Bill Gates himself.”
