Trump Slams ‘Broken Down Hack’ McConnell For Doubting GOP Chances In Midterms

"He should spend more time (and money!) helping them get elected, and less time helping his crazy wife and family get rich on China!” says former president.

Former President Donald Trump excoriated Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) for casting doubt on whether Republicans can flip the Senate in the November midterm elections.

Trump took to his social media platform Truth Social late Saturday to push back against McConnell’s remarks.

“Why do Republicans Senators allow a broken down hack politician, Mitch McConnell, to openly disparage hard working Republican candidates for the United States Senate. This is such an affront to honor and to leadership. He should spend more time (and money!) helping them get elected, and less time helping his crazy wife and family get rich on China!”

McConnell, the Senate Minority Leader, had claimed that Republicans have a better likelihood of flipping the House rather than the Senate, in part due to “candidate quality.”

“I think there’s probably a greater likelihood the House flips than the Senate. Senate races are just different. They’re statewide. Candidate quality has a lot to do with the outcome,” McConnell told the Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce on Thursday.

This comes as several Trump-endorsed Senate candidates are trailing behind their Democrat opponents.

From the New York Post:

Celebrity doctor Mehmet Oz is trailing Lt. Gov. John Fetterman by double digits in Pennsylvania, former football great Herschel Walker is lagging behind Sen. Raphael Warnock in Georgia and Blake Masters is 8 percentage points behind Sen. Mark Kelley in Arizona.

Only JD Vance, the author of “Hillbilly Elegy,” is running a narrow race against Rep. Tim Ryan in Ohio.

Fox News pundit Sean Hannity also blasted McConnell on his Friday edition of “Hannity,” claiming that the Kentucky senator is “content” to leave Republican candidates “out to dry and fend for themselves.”

“How about you get out there, Mitch, and fight for your team?” Hannity asked. “What’s your agenda, Mitch, or would you rather just sit by and watch helplessly as Democrats lie to your face, pass another $500 billion green energy boondoggle?”
