Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) addressed rumors former President Donald Trump could soon be indicted by a New York district attorney, pointing out it’s political persecution by Soros-funded prosecutors — while at the same time refusing to say the 45th president’s name.
“I don’t know what’s gonna happen but I do know this, the Manhattan District Attorney is a Soros-funded prosecutor,” DeSantis said at a press conference in Panama City Monday.
“So he, like other Soros-funded prosecutors, weaponized their office to impose a political agenda on society at the expense of the rule of law and public safety.”
The Republican governor, who has not yet made a formal declaration he’s running for the GOP presidential nomination, went on to make backhanded snide remarks at Trump’s expense, giving credence to rumors Trump paid hush to money porn star Stormy Daniels.
“Look, I don’t know what goes into paying hush money to a pornstar to secure silence over some type of alleged affair. I can’t speak to that,” DeSantis said, eliciting laughter from the crowd.
“But what I can speak to is that if you have a prosecutor who is ignoring crimes happening every single day in his jurisdiction and he chooses to go back many many years ago to try to use something about pornstar hush money payments, you know that’s an example of pursuing a political agenda and weaponizing the office,” he added.
The governor continued: “It’s important to point out when you’re talking about these Soros-funded prosecutors, yes, they may do a high-profile politicized prosecution and that’s bad but the real victims are ordinary New Yorkers, ordinary Americans and all these different jurisdictions that they get victimized every day because of the reckless political agenda that these Soros DA’s bring to their job.”
Following the presser, Trump spokeswoman Liz Harrington immediately pointed out nowhere in his statement did he even mention Trump by name.
Elsewhere during remarks to reporters Monday, DeSantis said his office had “no interest” in getting “involved” in the “manufactured circus” created by the Soros DA, who was “trying to virtue signal for his base.”
“He’s trying to do a political spectacle … I’ve got real issues I’ve got to deal with here in the state of Florida,” DeSantis stated.
The dismissive remarks did not go over well with the MAGA base which bashed DeSantis for refusing to give the issue the attention it required.
DeSantis’ remarks also received a savage meme treatment:
We’ll see how well refusing to vociferously defend America’s most popular president pans out for DeSantis if he does indeed seek the presidential nomination.
Trump floated the notion Saturday the Manhattan DA could soon move to indict and arrest him as early as Tuesday for supposedly violating campaign contribution laws when he allegedly paid Stormy Daniels $130,000 in hush money.
