Police in New York City have arrested a transgender suspect with a lengthy rap sheet who allegedly smashed another man in the head with a hammer at a subway station this week, according to reports.

The incident unfolded at around 9:15 p.m. on Tuesday night in Manhattan.

The victim, a 29-year-old Asian male, got into an argument with the suspect, a man who identifies as a woman, after they bumped into each other on a platform at the 14th Street-Union Square subway station.

Video footage from an ensuing altercation appears to show the suspect pull a hammer from a bag and strike the victim in the head.

“Why you hit me?” the assailant can be heard yelling. “Why the f**k you hit me?”

The suspect fled the scene but was caught on Wednesday while hopping a turnstile at another train station, police say.

“Christian Jeffers, 48, who identifies as a woman, was charged with assault, aggravated harassment and menacing – all as hate crimes – over the Tuesday night attack of a 29-year-old man at the 14th Street-Union Square station,” the New York Post reports.

Jeffers reportedly has a lengthy criminal record, including 47 prior arrests, time in prison for second-degree robbery, and busts for prostitution, grand larceny, public lewdness, and criminal possession of a controlled substance.

The victim was treated for non-life-threatening injuries at Bellevue Hospital.

“He ended up bumping into me and then after that, he turned around trying to get into my face pretty aggressively, and in that kind of process he ended up stepping on me,” he told The Post. “He stepped on my foot and then after that, he took out the hammer and then I was hit on the head.”

“I want to get him locked up because he was pretty aggressive. He was looking for trouble.”
