A knife-wielding suspect was arrested during a rage road clash with legally-armed biker and his wife in Florida this week, according to authorities.
The disturbing incident unfolded at around 1 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon in Palm Coast, a city in Flagler County.
The victim told authorities the suspect, identified as 50-year-old Rafael Vincent Rivera, cut him off in a Toyota Tacoma pickup truck, sparking a confrontation.
Rivera reportedly exited his vehicle brandishing a knife, prompting the victim to don metallic knuckles.
The ensuing showdown was captured on camera by the victim’s wife.
“After exchanging words, Rivera stepped aggressively toward the victim and began slashing his knife at him,” the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO) explained in a press release.
“In fear for his life, the victim, who has a permit to carry a concealed weapon, pulled out his firearm. The victim then told Rivera to back away, which he did.”
FCSO says they received six emergency calls about the fight and deputies arrived quickly on the scene, ultimately arresting Rivera after a brief investigation and review of video footage.
“Traffic disagreements should never result in violence in our streets,” said Flagler County Sheriff Rick Staly. “In this particular incident, the video captured by the victim’s wife clearly shows that her husband’s life was threatened. I applaud the way the motorcyclist handled this situation.”
“After his life was clearly threatened, he lawfully defended himself and then de-escalated the situation. The offender is lucky he was not shot.”
Rivera was held on no bond at the Flagler County Detention Facility, where he has reportedly been detained on four previous occasions since 2015 on three felony and four misdemeanor charges involving theft and trespassing.
He now faces a charge of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon without Intent to Kill.
